Bay Windows: Could it happen here? 23 States voted to define marriage to be between 1 man and 1 woman Ethan Jacobs helps us understand why homosexual lobbying groups are afraid of the ballot box. Some key findings emerge from his research: When it comes to pre-election polling data on LGBT issues, particularly marriage amendments, the polls often lie, to the benefit of the anti-gay side. ... The pre-election polls in several of the states facing marriage amendments markedly underestimated the support for those amendments on Election Day.

Across Canada, the gay marriage issue and Mr. Harper’s election have galvanized conservative Christian groups to enter politics like never before. Before now, the Christian right was not a political force in this mostly secular, liberal country. But it is coalescing with new clout and credibility, similar to the evangelical Christian movement in the United States in the 1980s, though not nearly on the same scale.

U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops: Bishops adopt statement on pastoral care of homosexuals Baltimore (Nov. 14, 2006) The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops today approved a statement on the pastoral care of homosexually inclined persons. The 26-page statement reiterates church teaching that all homosexual acts are morally wrong but affirms the dignity of those with homosexual inclinations and says that having such an inclination is not in itself sinful. Ted Olson from Christianity Today opines: "The document is quite good, and even the sections on the sacraments can serve Protestant churches well, as they seek to encourage their congregations to take positive actions on chastity and sexual ethics."

Vote On Marriage: Call to Action - It is not over! Kris Mineau writes: Last week, Arline Isaacson, co-chair of the Massachusetts Gay and Lesbian Political Caucus (and chief lobbyist for the Massachusetts Teachers Association), stood boldly before a cheering crowd at the State House shouting "it's over, it's over." By a vote of 109 to 87, legislators recessed the Constitutional Convention to January 2 without taking a vote on the people's amendment on marriage. Each of those 109 legislators personally broke their oath of office and violated the constitution with the clear intention of never taking a vote on the people's business.

New York Times: Gay Marriage Losing Punch as Ballot Issue The debate over same-sex marriage was a black-or-white proposition two years ago when voters in 11 states barred gay couples from marrying. But this year shades of gray are everywhere, as eight more states consider similar ballot measures. Some of the proposed bans are struggling in the polls, and the issue of same-sex marriage itself has largely failed to rouse conservative voters. [COMMENTS]
Boston Globe: Gay couples from R.I. can marry in Mass. In a significant victory for gay rights advocates, a Superior Court judge ruled Sept. 29, 2006 that a lesbian couple from Rhode Island may wed in Massachusetts, finding that Rhode Island's laws do not explicitly prohibit same-sex marriages. The ruling by Judge Thomas Connolly is the first to find that same-sex couples from outside Massachusetts may wed under the Supreme Judicial Court's 2003 ruling that legalized same-sex weddings in the Bay State. New York Times: What if It’s (Sort of) a Boy and (Sort of) a Girl? Intersex babies, born with both male and female genitals. are rare - maybe 1 in 4,500. Still, they force us to confront some basic issues about sexual identity, birth anomalies and what rights parents have in physically shaping their kids. Will a child grow up to enjoy a better life if he or she is saved from the trials of maturing in a funny-looking body? Or will that child be better off if he or she is loved and accepted, at least at home, exactly as he or she is? [COMMENTS]
