- New Bedford Raid:
Bilingual volunteers needed in New Bedford
Ewa Goodman writes March 7, 2007: Today, a
humanitarian crisis
emerged from the aftermath of the March 6, 2007 raids
by U.S.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement at the Michael
Bianco Inc.
factory in New Bedford. Throughout New Bedford,
children were left
at day care centers, babies with babysitters and
elders without
caregivers. Throughout the day and evening, hundreds
descended upon
Our Lady of Guadalupe at St. James Church looking for
loved ones.
Donate Time. Trauma specialists/mental health
professionals and bi-
lingual volunteers are especially needed to assist
with needs of
family members left behind. Call Cynthia Tschampl at
MIRA to let us
know what times you will be in New Bedford:
617-350-5480 x212 or
ctschampl@miracoalition.org. All volunteers should
report to Our Lady
of Guadalupe at St. James Church, 233 County St., New
Bedford. Please
bring bottled water, paper products and canned goods.
Please go to the Mira website for more information.
